Decision-making process

The decision-making process will help you make intentional, purposeful and thoughtful decisions, in partnership with families and communities, to maximise the wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and to support their learning and development.

The decision-making process is a dynamic and ongoing cycle of:

  • planned learning – the expected knowledge, skills and dispositions for children
  • pedagogy – the practices that promote this learning
  • documenting and reflecting for children’s learning – making informed assessments to inform new learning.

All aspects of the process are interconnected and collectively contribute to children’s engagement with, and success in, learning.

Children, families and communities

Children thrive when families and educators partner together to support their learning. Educators using Foundations for Success actively engage children, families and communities in the teaching-learning process.

Pedagogy

Foundations for Success outlines 4 contexts that educators can use to inform culturally and linguistically responsive practice and extend and enrich children’s learning, development and wellbeing.

Documenting and reflecting for children’s learning

Documenting and reflecting is the process of gathering evidence of children’s learning, described in the Early Years Learning Framework as ‘Assessment for Learning’.
